Brighten Up Your Garden With a Shabby Chic Flower Basket!

The summer holidays can feel like an eternity! Especially when trying to keep the kids occupied. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! In this blog post, we’ll show you how to create your own shabby chic flower basket with our non-toxic, family-friendly garden paint!

Get the kids involved!

Create a fairy flower basket using our shades Petal Pink or Lavender. You could even buy a fairy figurine to place on your basket to watch over your flowers. Alternatively, you could paint your flower basket with our shades Lime Tree or Garden Green to create a prehistoric forest! Maybe you’ll find a dinosaur stomping around between the plant pots.

What you will need:

• Old flowerbox
• Paintbrushes
• Rainbow Shabby Chic Chalk Based Garden Furniture Paint
• Figurines (if your little decorators are involved!)
• Masking tape
• Fine & Medium grade sandpaper
• Old newspaper
• A damp cloth

Here’s how to create a shabby chic flower basket in 7 steps….

1.) Lay old newspaper outside in your working space. You may need to weigh the paper down if there’s a breeze. Then, remove any plant pots standing in your flower basket.

2.) Use a damp cloth to wipe away any dirt or soil.

3.) Use your fine grade sandpaper to roughen the surface of your flower basket. This will make it easier for the paint to take. Once done, apply masking tape to any areas you don’t wish to paint.

4.) Start painting! Apply in even strokes with the grain of your flower basket for a fabulous finish. We suggest applying 1-2 coats for a shabbier look and 3 coats for a fully matte appearance.

5.) Wait for your flower basket to dry. Allow 2-3 hours. Do not place any plant pots back inside the flower basket while the paint is drying.

6.) If you wish, you can distress your flower basket with medium grade sandpaper to achieve the true “Shabby Chic” look! Rub away paint in areas where the colour would naturally wear over time e.g. the basket handle or the corners of the flower box.

7.) Use your damp cloth once more to wipe away any extra debris from sanding.
