Out With The Old, In With The Bureau!

If you’re on the hunt for some upcycling inspiration, you’re in luck. One of our lovely customers Shandira (aka The Crafting Mommie), recently used our products to transform an antique bureau into a sleek, modern unit. Let’s see how she did it!

The Crafting Mommie’s Antique Bureau Upcycle

As you can see from the below image, our customer was asked to refurbish an antique chest of drawers for her sister-in-law. While these drawers carry an amazing antique vibe, Shandira wanted something more elegant…

With help from our Shabby Chic Furniture Paint, Shandira brought the bureau into the 21st century. She painted the majority of the unit in Anthracite, followed by Antique Silver on the drawer compartments.

Can you believe that’s the same unit?! What was once a worn down bureau has now turned into a glamorous statement piece. We love how it has been styled in the room. And, as you can see, our Anthracite and Antique Silver shades work wonderfully together.

What Is Shabby Chic Furniture Paint?

Shabby Chic Furniture Paint is inspired by the much-loved ‘shabby chic’ trend. This trend has been around for many decades, focusing on distressed furniture and cosy colours.

Keep a polished look by painting and waxing – or bring in the ‘shabby’ vibes by lightly sanding the edges. You decide how rustic you want the finished piece to look!

Our paint is also super simple to use and, thanks to its richly pigmented formula, doesn’t require any sort of primer…

How To Use our Furniture Paint

Want results like Shandira’s? We know we do. Our Shabby Chic Furniture paint is incredibly easy to use…

What You Need:

  • Shabby Chic Furniture Paint
  • Sandpaper (if painting bare wood)
  • Paintbrush or roller
  • Furniture wax (we do that too!)
  1. Prep Your Surface

Shabby Chic Furniture Paint may not need a primer or undercoat, but we recommended prepping your surface for the best results.

Remove any wax or oil with white spirit and sand the surface down if it’s bare wood. This will help to ensure our paint glides on and grips to the surface effortlessly.

  1. Apply The Furniture Paint

Stir the paint pot thoroughly until the colour is mixed. From here, apply a coat with your paintbrush or roller. If you want the ultimate ‘shabby chic’ look, apply two coats in contrasting colours (sanding down later will reveal the first colour, creating an edgy contrast)

  1. Wait 15 Minutes

You can apply a second coat in just 15 minutes, but please bear in mind that the paint isn’t fully touch dry for 2-3 hours. So don’t try and handle your furniture prematurely.

  1. Abrade The Paint

This step is optional. If you want a distressed finish, lightly abrade the dry paint with moistened sandpaper. Do this until the base-coat colour appears or until you are satisfied.

  1. Apply Wax For Protection

Once you are happy with the final result, we highly recommend applying some Shabby Chic Furniture Wax. This will add to your furniture’s durability, protecting it from any bumps and scrapes. It also creates a gorgeous sheen on your freshly painted furniture.

This Is The Furniture Paint You’ve Been Looking For

Whether you want to achieve modern elegance like Shandira did or prefer to stick to shabby chic vibes, our furniture paint does it all. With over 25 colours to choose from, it’s never been easier to upcycle your antique furniture!
