Shabby Chic Cupboard Paint For A Vintage Home Feel
Vintage is the new modern – and the most vivid furniture is created when the contrasting styles are entwined. Especially in the kitchen!
Today, we’re looking specifically at your kitchen cabinets and how your cupboard paint can turn a plain looking kitchen into a sleek, yet inviting setting for your family dinners and parties.
Shabby Chic Cupboard Paint For Striking Aesthetics
Whether you already have a vintage vibe around your home or you’re looking to add a second-hand flair, choosing a bright cupboard paint will bring life into your kitchen (or anywhere else in your home for that matter!)
The image above illustrates an extreme shabby chic furniture style where the furniture is purposely distressed to look aged. However you don’t have to go so far as to chip the furniture, you can even leave them freshly painted. For a step-by-step guide on shabby chic furniture painting, click here.
Right, now into the meaty part: How shabby chic cupboard paint can transform your home…
Don’t break the bank at the antique shop…
Some people buy vintage furniture and home decor for ridiculous prices. But if they were smart, they would rejuvenate old furniture with a fresh lick of shabby chic paint to achieve the same effect (if not, better!)
We’ve already told you how to make this stunning shabby chic coffee table from a wooden pallet – now it’s time to make over your kitchen and the best place to start is those dingy cabinets that are just begging for a generous coat of cupboard paint!
So let’s break down the options…
Cupboard paint colours to complement your kitchen
Light kitchens
If you have a neutral coloured kitchen that features shades of white, cream or beige, we would recommend the following colours to add a splash of excitement:
- Antique Silver
- Antique Gold
- Cottage Green
- Cottage Blue
The metallic paint is going to add a modern and futuristic feel to a warm and cosy kitchen, not to mention that metallic shades are in fashion this season. These colours will look stunning un-touched or lightly distressed to reveal a white or bare wood finish.
On the other hand, the cottage green and blue shades would look more striking when heavily distressed (see image above) You don’t have to go quite as heavy with the sandpaper, but it would look lovely if the coloured paint was sanded down to reveal a lighter shade of the same colour.
Dark kitchens
If you have a dark themed kitchen with black, brown or blue shades, you might want to feature a contrasting light shade or add a feature colour to make your kitchen POP. Here are our cupboard paint colour suggestions:
- Nautical Red
- Clotted Cream
- Scottish Heather
- Rhubarb & Custard
The light cream shades such as Clotted Cream and Rhubarb & Custard would look especially lovely above black granite or marble worktops. The contrast between the black worktops and the light airy cupboards creates a modern yet ‘homely’ look.
Whereas the bright red will create conversations when paired with dark wood floors and dining furniture.
